CARLO Re Carlo Re / Red

This is a powerful and majestic red wine made from 100% Sagrantino, an indigenous grape variety representative of Montefalco in Umbria. "CARLO Re" by Le Thadee expresses the concentrated and complex characteristics of Sagrantino to the fullest.

Aromas of dark fruits such as blackberry and black plum, along with ripe fruit notes reminiscent of dried plum, spread on the nose. These are further layered with nuances of clove, cinnamon, black pepper, and balsamic vinegar, creating a deep and complex bouquet.

The palate is powerful and concentrated, yet the tannins are beautifully integrated with age. This full-bodied red wine leaves a lasting impression with a long finish and rich spice, perfect for special occasions.

It pairs exceptionally well with red meats like beef and lamb, as well as game dishes such as venison and wild boar. It also complements liver dishes and aged cheeses, further enhancing the wine's complex flavors.

Carefully selected grapes are hand-picked and then sorted again at the winery. Fermentation takes place in a combination of stainless steel tanks and terracotta amphorae, pursuing the inherent character of the grape variety and the expression of the terroir.

Maceration lasts 10 to 18 days, with pump-overs and punch-downs used to achieve optimal polyphenol extraction. The wine is then aged for 18 months in French oak barrels of varying toast levels, with bâtonnage performed monthly. A further 4 months of bottle aging results in a wine of complexity and harmony.

Le Thadee is an Umbrian winery established in 2018 by the Natali family, who have been involved in viticulture for many years. They acquired excellent vineyards previously owned by a renowned Montefalco wine producer and handle all aspects from cultivation to winemaking and bottling.

Their organically farmed vineyards still feature pre-phylloxera old vines of Trebbiano Spoletino, preserving the history and unique character of the land.
