A red wine that combines power and elegance, born from pre-phylloxera old vines on the steep slopes of Mount Etna. The unique minerality and complex aromas imparted by the volcanic soil truly embody the character of Etna.
Elegant floral notes of wild violets and roses intertwine with aromas of red fruits like cherry and raspberry. Furthermore, multilayered nuances of cinnamon, forest floor, mushrooms, graphite, cacao, and licorice unfold, developing expressively in the glass.
Delicate fruit flavors, volcanic minerality, and supple tannins harmonize beautifully, leading to a long finish. This wine combines the elegance of Burgundy with the power unique to Etna.
It pairs well with red meat and aged cheeses, but also creates a wonderful marriage with seafood dishes such as oysters, sashimi, and fried fish.
It also exhibits excellent compatibility with traditional Sicilian dishes like Catalana-style king crab and sardine and tomato pasta.
Carefully selected grapes are hand-picked in early October and gently transported in 15kg crates. Upon arrival at the winery, they are sorted again.
After destemming, fermentation with indigenous yeasts takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Maceration lasts for approximately three weeks to extract fruit flavors and complex aromas.
After malolactic fermentation, 60% of the wine is aged in French oak barrels and 40% in stainless steel tanks for nine months. It is then bottled and released after approximately four years of bottle aging. The depth and refined taste born from long-term aging are major attractions of this wine.
Santa Maria La Nave is a winery committed to preserving the rich nature and traditions of Mount Etna for the future.
Don Alfio, a farmer who has managed the land passed down from his grandfather's generation, has continued to preserve this rare vineyard through organic farming based on traditional wisdom. The vineyard still contains pre-phylloxera old vines and rare fruit trees, and Etna's rich ecosystem continues to thrive.
To pass on this value to the next generation, Sonia Spadaro Murone inherited the project. She produces wines that express the true charm of the volcanic terroir and communicates Etna's new potential to the world.
